This Weeks Flight for Wednesday 29th June 2022 takes us to Mexico departing Toluca (MMTO) flying over Mexico City and Maya/Toltec temples, extinct volcanoes (we hope!) arriving at Cuernavaca (MMCB also known as General Mariano Matamoros Airport).
This is a high altitude VFR flight and includes a VFR route over Mexico City and within MMMX airspace so attention must be paid to altitude limits as detailed on this link Visual Approach Chart. The altitudes circled in red are the maximum VFR altitudes permitted. This chart details helicopter routes around the airspace and is the only VFR chart that I could locate and was kindly provided by Eduardo Gutierrez of VATMEX.
      Flight created by YMA555
Scenery: Due to the plethora of flight sim programs now in use scenery is at the discretion of each pilot. At times the flight author might include links for addon MSFS2020 as that is what he uses personally.
      MSFS2020  Mayan/Toltec Temple Ruins  https://flightsim.to/file/731/city-of-teotihuacan
Irrespective of what scenery you choose to use it is always strongly recommended to run your sim to check that the scenery works and does not cause any CTD or other issues.
Aircraft: Capable of 120 kias    A Cessna 172 can do it but it require some detours around mountains and would be working very hard. Due to high altitude and rarified atmosphere and some fast climbs being required a turbo charged aircraft is recommended i.e. Quest Kodiak, Twotter or PC-6.
Comms: Tune Radio to 122.80MHz - Unless Advised by ATC or further detailed hereunder
      Flight Route:  Details
Weather: Real time weather, fair weather if conditions are not suitable for VFR Flying.

If there’s one thing we do best, it’s the good old FIFO flight; keeping communities connected and opening up our stunning interior to the world. Explore this beautiful country on the first Friday of every month as we take a tour around our regional airfields.
VATPAC invites you to Australia’s famous Pilbara-Kimberley region in WA, famous for its red deserts, extraordinary rock formations and beautiful reefs. With connections to both Perth (YPPH) and Darwin (YPDN), towns in this region play a vital role in keeping WA’s mining and tourism industries rolling. Join us between 0700z-1000z (1700-2000 AEST; 1500-1800 AWST) on the 1st of July 2022!

      Routes:
The below map highlights some of the routes available to fly throughout this region:

Some other airports of importance in and around this region include: Solomon (YSOL), West Angelas (YANG), Roy Hill-Ginbata (YGIA), Boolgeeda (YBGD), and Fortescue (YFDF)

      Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

      Scenery
Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot. Updated X-Plane scenery is available here.

By far our most popular of all the weekly events, on any given Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
Not to be confused with out Spilled Milk Run Monday events held on the last Monday of every month, pilots can expect ATC services as you fly between Melbourne and Sydney, or any destination in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
Traffic Levels usually begin to pick up around 0830z and peak between 0930-1100z.

      Controllers:
Controllers who wish to reserve a position to control during this event are encouraged to apply via https://events.vatpac.org/  After the controller roster is released on Saturday evening, no controllers will be added to the roster. Positions that do not have a nominated controller (i.e. no controller assigned on the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control.
*Non-Standard positions* will be available for opening depending on traffic levels. They may only be opened once all of the rostered positions are filled. Please see a member of the Board of Directors, or a C3 rated controller to be granted permission to open a non-standard position. Please review the controller NOTAM here for detailed information about which Non-Standard Positions are automatically authorized.
