      In collaboration with Singapore VACC, Indonesia VACC, and VATSEA; VATPAC is delighted to invite you to the Perth -> Singapore Shuttle! Fly from Perth Airport to Singapore Changi Airport with full ATC from 0800z-1600z on the 17th of April 2021!
       
      What is a 'Shuttle' Event?
      A shuttle event is where we invite pilots and controllers to fly from the defined departure airport, to the defined arrival airport with the expectation of full ATC along the way! 
      We invite you to depart from Perth Airport (YPPH) between 0800Z-1000z on the 17th of April 2021, inbound to Singapore Changi Airport (WSSS), as we attempt to test out our talented controlling team! Below you will find the recommended route between the two airfields, as well as information for your departure and arrival! 
       
      Route:
      VATPAC, VATSEA, Indonesia VACC and Singapore VACC recommend the following route when flying between Perth and Singapore. 
      YPPH -> WSSS:
      ROUTE: PH AVNEX N752 PLB G579 REPOV SIN
      DEPARTURE: AVNEX3 (ALL RUNWAYS)
      ARRIVAL: Expect REPOV1A or REPOV1B
      Remember the departure slot for YPPH is between 0800z- 1000z! 
       
      Departure From Perth:
      Pilots departing from Perth Airport (YPPH), can expect to depart from either RWY 03 or RWY 21, depending on wind direction and traffic levels.

      Arrival Into Singapore:
      Upon Arrival into Singapore Changi Airport (WSSS), pilots can expect either the REPOV1A or REPOV1B followed by a choice of RNAV, VOR, ILS, or Visual approach (Weather Permitting) into either Runways 02(L/C) or 20R. ATC will assign the approach type nominated in the ATIS, but you may request a different approach type if you are up for the challenge. 
      We ask that you are familiar with the approach type you select. If you are unfamiliar with these operations you can request vectors from the Approach controller to ensure you capture the localiser.

      Flying in Oceanic Airspace:
      Normal ATC throughout Australia (Brisbane Centre, Melbourne Centre, Sydney Approach, etc.) rely on radar to determine where an aircraft is in the air.
      Over the ocean, there is no radar. This non-radar airspace is controlled by oceanic ATC.
      All Oceanic Controlled Airspace in Australia is controlled from Brisbane, so all oceanic controllers in Australia are called "Brisbane Radio", there is no "Melbourne Radio", so ML-IND_FSS is called "Brisbane Radio".
      One of the significant differences between radar and Oceanic flying is the need for position reports. 

      Position reports are how ATC can determine where you are. Position reports contain estimates for waypoints, speeds, altitudes and any other information. Because there is no radar over the ocean, ATC relies on time-based separation and reports from the pilots. ATC has no way of determining where you are unless you specifically tell them.
      The standard format is:
      Current/Previous waypoint name and the time which you crossed that point. Current flight level. Mach number if assigned by ATC. Your next waypoint and estimate for that point. The waypoint after that. For example: "Qantas 123 is position PLUGA at time 0523, flight level 380, estimating VELKU at 0750, SASRO next."

      GPS flight plan is available for FSX/P3D .pln, MSFS2020 .pln, X-Plane .fms and Little Navmap. This package also includes high resolution charts.
      Navigation: Pilots are encouraged to navigate visually along roads. For those less familiar the accompanying GPS flight plan is the recommended method of navigation.
       
      Communications
      Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. Now that VATSIM has introduced AFV (Audio For VATSIM) CTAF can now be used across all VATSIM approved pilot clients. Pilots are requested to tune to the published frequency as detailed in the flight details for an event when operating in or around an aerodome to make and monitor CTAF broadcasts. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM COC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor Unicom (Australia 122.80). It is highly recommended that pilots ensure that at least one of their "on board" COM radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive unicom transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF frequency. Please Note. All pilots should also be vigilant regarding the receipt of text on both unicom and CTAF. If it is discovered there is a pilot participating that is unable to receive voice transmissions, pilots should arrange to also broadcast via text to ensure those pilots without the benefit of voice is able to receive appropriate broadcasts. VATSIM provides an update guide for getting AFV working on each of the approved pilot clients.
      Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

      By far our most popular of all the weekly events, on any given Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
      EVENT TIME CHANGE!!! Milk Run Monday now begins at 0800z and finishes at 1200z (Due to Daylight Savings Time ending this month!)
      Not to be confused with out Spilled Milk Run Monday events held on the last Monday of every month, pilots can expect ATC services as you fly between Melbourne and Sydney, or any destination in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
      Traffic Levels usually begin to pick up around 0800z and peak between 0900-1030z.

      Controllers who wish to reserve a position to control during this event are encouraged to apply via https://events.vatpac.org/. After the controller roster is released on Saturday evening, no controllers will be added to the roster. Positions that do not have a nominated controller (i.e. no controller assigned on the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control.
      *Non-Standard positions* will be available for opening depending on traffic levels. They may only be opened once all of the rostered positions are filled.       Spotlight Series: ORBX YBBNv2 for Prepar3D v4+ | 20APR21 (0800z-1200z)
      Who are ORBX?
      For those who don't know ORBX by now, they are leaders in flight simulation since 2006. Having published over 350 products, ORBX is known for high quality, modern and realistic sceneries including the likes of Cairns, Melbourne and Broome. Employing over 30 staff from Australia, UK and numerous other countries. ORBX have continued to maintain their Australian roots with one of their offices and CEO being based in Essendon field. Developing sceneries for FSX, P3D, Aerofly FS2, X-Plane 11 and MSFS; ORBX has created a wide range of products from airports to Autogen addons. Without ORBX, flight simulation in Australia would be extremely different without the 30+ product oceanic library ORBX has to offer.
      Brisbane Airport is the work of the Havant based ORBX team who have overhauled the airport effectively rebuilding the airport from scratch. Built using current modelling techniques, Physically Based Rendering (PBR) complements highly detailed textures. Custom SODE jetways, including T-style jetways, and VDGS integration (requires the SODE VDGS pack) ensure an immersive and accurate experience from gate to gate.
