GPS flight plan is available for FSX/P3D .pln, MFS2020 .pln, X-Plane .fms and Little Navmap.
Navigation: Pilots sufficiently familiar with the region may navigate along the Goldfield Highway. For those less familiar the accompanying GPS flight plan is the recommended method of navigation.
      Communications
Australia uses CTAF (Common Traffic Advisory Frequency) for radio comms at uncontrolled airfields. During an event, Pilots are requested to broadcast intentions on the published CTAF. Pilots should also be aware that it is a VATSIM CoC (Code of Conduct) requirement that all pilots at uncontrolled airfields should monitor UNICOM on 122.800. Pilots should ensure that at least one of their radios (COM 2 being the most likely) is tuned to receive UNICOM transmissions in addition to transmitting and receiving on the published CTAF.
Pilots also should read this post regarding the implications of using VATSIM UNICOM for CTAF. It provides some insight into potential pitfalls for the unwary when monitoring 122.80 in a CTAF environment.

      Scenery
Due to the plethora of simulation platforms now being used, scenery is left to the discretion of each pilot. Updated X-Plane 11 scenery is available here.

VATPAC invites you to the next Real Operations event featuring Melbourne Tullamarine as the host airport. Fly in or out of Melbourne to a huge selection of locations the aerodrome services on a daily basis. Whether you prefer a quick city hop, a run to the west or a long haul trip starting with or ending with full ATC, this event is for you!

      What is Real Ops?
Real Ops Melbourne is a major event hosted within VATPAC's airspace on the VATSIM Network. This 8-hour event aims to closely replicate and simulate the real schedules of Melbourne Tullamarine Airport.
This year we have decided to open a dedicated 8 hours of full time controlling to capture the peak arrivals and departures for Melbourne. Flight slot times are based on a typical weekend schedule offering the most accurate schedule possible.
We will provide documentation to help ensure the smooth operations of this event. This document will be released to the public in the final few days before the event.

      How does it work?
To simulate Melbourne's real-world environment, we have carefully laid out slot times for pilots to book. These slot times are replicated from the real world to the best of our ability.
A pilot will need to secure their slot before logging onto the network, if a pilot decides to log on to the network without a slot they will need to contact Melbourne Delivery to receive clearance which will be given based on an available slot. If a pilot is inbound from another airport into Melbourne; they will be accommodated secondary to those who have booked slot times.

      Event Details:
Real Ops Melbourne is designed to allow pilots and controllers the ability to receive full ATC service as they transition in and out of the Victoria's largest airport. Fly either domestically or internationally as you hurtle your way to/from Melbourne! The possibilities are endless.
Throughout this event, ATC will be tasked with keeping appropriate separations standards whilst pilots move around the TMA and ground, joining the arrival and departure streams. The challenge is to keep Melbourne busy for the entire event! We can only do that with heaps and heaps of pilots!

All VATPAC, VATNZ and Visiting Controllers may apply for a position to control at this event, we intend on splitting the 8 hours into 4x2 hour shifts. To apply for ATC please visit the link below. Apply for ATC here!
Dependent on the number of ATC Applications will ultimately persuade the number of controller positions that are eventually published and rostered. Positions that are planned to be rostered are below.
Login Identifier: Radio Callsign: Frequency: ML_DEL Melbourne Delivery 127.200 ML_GND Melbourne Ground 121.700 ML_TWR Melbourne Tower 120.500       ML_APP Melbourne Approach 132.000 ML_DEP* Melbourne Departure 118.900 ML-S_DEP* Melbourne Departure 129.400       ML-SNO_CTR Melbourne Centre 124.000 ML-ELW_CTR* Melbourne Centre 123.750 ML-FLW_CTR*     Positions denoted with a '*' are non-standard positions and may not be rostered on the day.

      Booking System:
To book your flight(s), please visit the booking site here.
Aircraft slots have been created to simulate real-world schedules (To the best of our ability). One month prior to the event (23APR21), slots will be opened for booking. Pilots may choose more than one slot to book if their arrival or departure slot times do not overlap.

Once your slot is booked, and flights are confirmed, you will receive a confirmation email. Please read over this to ensure the information is correct.
Bookings will close two days prior to the event (21MAY21 @ 1000z), unless booked out prior to this date.
24 hours prior to the event commencement, you will receive an email from the Director of Events with all the appropriate Event Details!
      Important Pilot Information:
      - Please read the Pilot Briefing. This will include important airspace information including ATC flow and who to contact.
      - Please make sure you log in with the correct callsign at least 20 minutes prior to slot time.
      - Please ensure you are using your assigned route, these routes are based on real-world. If you cannot use your assigned route please email [email protected] or converse with Delivery on the day.
      - Please be courteous; if for some reason you miss your slot we will endeavour to fit you in.
      - If you decide to fly without a slot we will do our best to fit you in, however there may be lengthy delays.

      Documentation:
Documentation for this event will be released for pilots and ATC on 18MAY21.

By far our most popular of all the weekly events, on any given Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
Not to be confused with out Spilled Milk Run Monday events held on the last Monday of every month, pilots can expect ATC services as you fly between Melbourne and Sydney, or any destination in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
Traffic Levels usually begin to pick up around 0800z and peak between 0900-1030z.

      Routes:
We recommend the following routes between Melbourne, Canberra and Sydney.
YMML-YSSY: ML DOSEL Y59 RIVET TESAT
YMML-YSCB: ML DOSEL Y59 ARRAN POLLI CB
      YSSY-YMML: TESAT WOL H65 RAZZI Q29 ML
YSSY-YSCB: TESAT WOL H65 RAZZI CB
YSCB-YMML: CB TANTA Q29 LIZZI ML
YSCB-YSSY:  CB TANTA W423 CULIN Y59 RIVET TESAT

      Controllers:
Controllers who wish to reserve a position to control during this event are encouraged to apply via https://events.vatpac.org/. After the controller roster is released on Saturday evening, no controllers will be added to the roster. Positions that do not have a nominated controller (i.e. no controller assigned on the position) will remain free for all controllers available on the day to control.
*Non-Standard positions* will be available for opening depending on traffic levels. They may only be opened once all of the rostered positions are filled. Please see a member of the Board of Directors, or a C3 rated controller to be granted permission to open a non-standard position. Please review the controller NOTAM here for detailed information about which Non-Standard Positions are automatically authorized.
