This weeks flight 1st September 2021 concludes a five leg flight around regional New Zealand in the North Island.
Leg 5 commences at Opotiki (NZOP) with destination Napier (NZNR) with T&G opportunities as per flight details below.

Be careful to watch for hot air balloons as we explore the Hunter Valley region of NSW for this month's FIFO Friday. Whether you like the big cities or the smaller outback airports, we've got you covered in September. Take in the crisp country air as you explore some of Australia's most infamous wineries and regional towns. Or if that doesn't take your fancy, you can always explore some of the country's best beaches along the coast. 
So join us on September 3rd as we try to fully staff up the Hunter Valley region between 0700z-1000z (5pm-8pm AEST : 3pm-6pm AWST). It doesn't matter which plane you want to fly, just hop in and enjoy the scenery. Whether you want to fly between the vibrant towns of Newcastle, Bathurst, and Dubbo, or immerse yourself in the outback, the Hunter Valley region definitely has something for you.

Special Procedures:
The Hunter Valley is home to a whole array of magnificent regional airfields for you to explore. Being too small for full control services, OCTA services will be provided by enroute controllers to assist you. Below is a guide to help you with these servies:
Departure:
Taxi Call:
The taxi call informs ATC of your intentions and that you are taxiing at your respective airfield. In response, centre will provide you with a traffic statement and a squawk code.

Departure Call:
Once you have departed, the departure call allows ATC to identify you and to provide you with your airways clearance to your destination.

Descent:
As you approach your destination, the centre controller will advise you that you are cleared to leave controlled airspace on your descent. They will provide you with a clearance, traffic statement, and the local QNH.

Termination of SARWATCH: 
Once you have arrived at your destination, inform centre that you have landed and expect them to respond with a termination of your SARWATCH.

Communication with Other Aircraft:

By far our most popular of all the weekly events, on any given Monday you'll find the famous "J-Curve" between Melbourne and Sydney well serviced by both pilots and ATC.
Not to be confused with out Spilled Milk Run Monday events held on the last Monday of every month, pilots can expect ATC services as you fly between Melbourne and Sydney, or any destination in between (Canberra, Albury etc).
Traffic Levels usually begin to pick up around 0800z and peak between 0900-1030z.

This Weeks Flight on 8th Sept 2021 commences a 5 leg flight following the rivers Danube, Main (canal) and Rhine from Budapest Hungary to Lelystad (North of Amsterdam, Holland). The flight is based upon a scenic river cruise completed some years ago by the flight author.
Leg 1 departs Budapest Hungary (LHBP) and follows the Danube river and will arrive at Wien Schwechat Austria (LOWW). LOWW can be a very busy International Airport however it does accept GA aircraft of all sizes. Please note that whatever runway is in use, the GA parking is at the western end of the airport. A link to airport diagram is attached hereunder. Please also keep this in mind when spawning at LOWW for Leg 2.

This Weeks Flight on 15th Sept 2021 continues a 5 leg flight following the rivers Danube, Main (canal) and Rhine from Budapest Hungary to Lelystad (North of Amsterdam, Holland). The flight is based upon a scenic river cruise completed some years ago by the flight author.
This Leg 2 departs Wien (Vienna) Schwechat Austria (LOWW) and follows the Danube river and will arrive at Vilshofen, Germany (EDMV). LOWW can be a very busy International Airport however it does accept GA aircraft of all sizes. Please note that whatever runway is in use, please spawn at the GA parking at the western end of the airport. A link to airport diagram is attached hereunder.

This Weeks Flight on 29th Sept 2021 continues a 5 leg flight following the rivers Danube, Main (canal) and Rhine from Budapest Hungary to Lelystad (North of Amsterdam, Holland). The flight is based upon a scenic river cruise completed some years ago by the flight author.
This Leg 4 departs Hassfurt, Germany (EDQT).and follows the Danube river, the River Main and then joins the River Rhine at the city of Mainz and will arrive at Koblenz-Winningen (EDRK).

      Fly between Melbourne (YMML) and Christchurch (NZCH) with the expectation of full ATC services throughout your flight!
      To accommodate for the time zone differences between Australia and New Zealand, this weeks Spilled Milk Run Monday has been moved between 0630-1030z.
       
      Flying in Oceanic Airspace:
      Normal ATC throughout Australia (Brisbane Centre, Melbourne Centre, Sydney Approach, etc.) rely on radar to determine where an aircraft is in the air.
      Over the ocean, there is no radar. This non-radar airspace is controlled by oceanic ATC.
      All Oceanic Controlled Airspace in Australia is controlled from Brisbane, so all oceanic controllers in Australia are called "Brisbane Radio".
      One of the significant differences between radar and Oceanic flying is the need for position reports. 

      Position reports are how ATC can determine where you are. Position reports contain estimates for waypoints, speeds, altitudes and any other information. Because there is no radar over the ocean, ATC relies on time-based separation and reports from the pilots. ATC has no way of determining where you are unless you specifically tell them.
      The standard format is:
      Current/Previous waypoint name and the time which you crossed that point. Current flight level. Mach number if assigned by ATC. Your next waypoint and estimate for that point. The waypoint after that. For example: "Qantas 123 is position PLUGA at time 0523, flight level 380, estimating VELKU at 0750, SASRO next."

      This Weeks Flight on 27th October 2021 is a flight from Kupang (WATT) which is the capital of Indonesian Timor to Dili (WPDL) the capital of Timor Leste. It includes a T&G at Oecusse which is an enclave within the borders of Indonesian Timor however which is a special administrative region of independent Timor Leste. The politics are very complicated in this region.
